Tehachapi is known for its cool breezes, historic charm, and beautiful views. Here are a few ways to spend your time while you're in town:
A world-famous engineering marvel! Grab a coffee and head to the overlook to watch trains navigate the circular track through the mountains. It’s a great spot for a quick photo op.
Located right within the Bear Valley Springs community (check if your lodging provides access!), it's a peaceful spot for a morning stroll or some fresh mountain air.
For a bit of history, this restored depot in the heart of downtown is a fun, quick stop to learn about the town’s rail-roading roots.
An absolute local legend. You must stop here for authentic German pastries, sandwiches, or a fresh loaf of bread. It’s the perfect pre-wedding lunch spot.
If you want to lean into the "Western" vibe, visit this local winery for a tasting. The scenery is gorgeous and fits our wedding theme perfectly. The venue is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, so guests should plan accordingly.
West-Beanz Coffee: For your morning caffeine fix, this local spot is cozy and welcoming.
Located just a short drive from most lodging in Tehachapi, this vineyard is famous for its unique geological history and stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Highlights a spacious outdoor patio that is perfect for taking in the mountain air. Specializes in "Big Red" wines, particularly their popular Syrah and Zinfandel. Often hosts live music and events that add to the festive weekend atmosphere. Walk-ins are welcome for tastings at the bar or patio.
This family-owned spot feels like a hidden garden in the high desert, known for its beautiful landscaping and intimate feel. Boasts lush grounds with flowers and shaded seating areas, offering a cooler retreat. Provides a more intimate tasting experience that is great for small groups of friends. Guests frequently mention the picturesque setting as a highlight of their visit. While walk-ins are typically accepted, they specifically mention "reserving your spot" on Saturday's and Sunday's.
The Altitude is Real: Tehachapi sits at about 4,000 feet. You might feel the "festivities" a little faster than usual, so be sure to drink plenty of water!
It’s famous for its wind turbines for a reason! Even on a sunny day, it can get breezy, so hold onto your hats. And possibly catch a glimpse of the wild horses running through the hills.
Once the sun goes behind the mountains, the temperature drops quickly. We recommend a wrap or a western jacket for the evening.
Take a stroll downtown Tehachapi and see local shops.
